Okay, you’ve seen a few handmade crocheted items and you wanna be a hooker 😉
Well, this is all you need to know to get you started on your crocheting addiction.
The Language
Firstly, there are a few different crocheting languages that you can follow but its always good to understand both so that way you can read UK and US crochet speak. Also, you may come across many patterns written in German or Russian. Both these countries have huge crochet communities and I’ve found lots of Russian patterns but because the symbols are international you don’t have to learn their languages and if they have a translated version it will normally be changed to US.
The Symbols
Across both US and UK terms, the symbols remain very much the same. I have created a helpful print out that you can use while learning how to read patterns.
The Stitches
For most projects, there are 4 main stitches to learn and once you have them down you can actually create a number of things. They are the chain, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. With these stitches, you can create items like blankets, beanies, scarves, pillow covers and much more. To help you along I have created an easy to document that can teach you these stitches.
With both downloadable PDFs, you can start practising your stitches. Now if you have any questions don’t hesitate to leave a comment or even send me an email and I will be happy to help.
